Reproductive cloning is a biotechnological process used to create an organism that is genetically identical to the donor organism. This is achieved through a technique known as somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). In this method, the nucleus of a somatic cell is transferred to an enucleated egg cell (an egg cell that has had its nucleus removed). The egg is then stimulated to divide and develop into an embryo, which is subsequently implanted into a surrogate mother to develop to term.
